Path: Third Time’s a Charm

I tried path around 2 years and 3 months ago. After watching their product’s introductory video and being in a very serious relationship (with the best girl ever, Gillian) I decided that like the man who was featured in the Path video I would use Path to document all of our “cute” and “romantic” moments. A few weeks later I realized that I had taken one forced “cute” or “romantic” moment. Intimate moments are such because they’re uninterrupted and focused. You’re not really thinking to yourself, “A photograph will make this even more romantic!” So after feeling like I failed to use Path as it was intended for me - and fearing that if I did it could make everyone who knows me sick of seeing cute pictures of Gillian and I - I stopped using Path.

A couple of months later I noticed that some of my friends were using Path. Not for just a day or two, but for a week or so. I gave it a try again. This time I used it to keep in touch with some of my closer friends who I didn’t get to see every day. Problem was, they weren’t using Path and didn’t have much interest in doing so. After routinely checking some status updates and photos without having anything to post about, I stopped using Path.

Today, I read the following quote from a TechCrunch article, Path’s Consistency of Tone:

So I’m choosing a very public place to admit the following: after using the new version of Path since November, I believe it is one of the best mobile products I’ve ever used and possibly the best true social network I’ve ever been a part of.

Here we go again. The praises of Path continue even after 2 years. There has to be something to it. Yes, the UI is gorgeous but I haven’t found a great way to use it yet. That “Path moment” has yet to happen. But after hearing Path’s praises often enough I think maybe third time is a charm. If you’ve used Path perhaps you could share reasons as to why you like it or why don’t.
